Cheryl has revealed that Black Eyed Peas’ front man Will.I.Am is like her ‘fairy godfather’.
The Girls Aloud singer, who worked with Will on her debut LP 3 Words, has stated that she would have never considered going solo if it wasn’t for the Meet Me Halfway rapper, and that she was ‘flattered’ that he wanted to work with her.
Chezza told Now magazine: “He’s like a fairy godfather to me. He’s my mentor. I was doing Girls Aloud and I was very happy with that. About a year before we agreed to take a break, I was watching TV with the girls and Will was on it and he was asked, ‘Are there any British acts you’d like to collaborate with?’ and he said, ‘There’s two: U2 and Cheryl Cole.'”
The Fight For This Love star added: “We all burst out laughing because the two just didn’t seem in the same league. From then on her was persistent. He said, ‘Let’s make a record’, he told the girls ‘It doesn’t have to affect you. Cheryl can do it and she can come back.’ He’s a genius.”
Cheryl, who is rumoured to be taking her solo venture stateside as well as being lined-up to take her seat on the US version of X Factor also revealed that she has had to make some tough decisions since splitting with cheating hubby Ashley Cole and embarking on her solo career.
She confessed: “There was a moment in time just after Girls Aloud took a break where I thought, ‘Do I do a solo record, or do I start a family?'”
The gorgeous Geordie, who is also rumoured to be the new face of Disney, added that she doesn’t read negative press about her personal life and aims to concentrate on her career and her position as a judge on the X Factor.
Cheryl said: “I focus on what I’m doing, which is putting out my music. The rest of it, I just let it be what it’s gonna be, but it’s not in my head, so it’s not disturbing my mind or controlling me emotionally.”
The 26-year old added: “I’m aware that I’m lucky enough at the moment to be supported by the nation and the media are really kind at the moment. But I’m also aware of the other side of it so I don’t take notice of any of it.”
