Perhaps she will sing, dance, light the Olympic flame and win the rhythmic gymnastics too? Cheryl Cole is the hot favourite to star in the London 2012 Olympic games opening ceremony after Universal Music signed up to oversee the musical soundtrack for the whole tournament.
Cole’s record company has been given the task to write, record and publish the musical accompaniment for 2012.
In the first deal of its kind by agreed by an Olympic organiser, London 2012 will work with Universal Music to exclusively release London 2012-branded music, including compilation albums.
Universal’s music labels and its publishing empire will be the official licensee for the games, creating music for the build-up to events and fanfares during medal ceremonies.
The music major will act as consultants with the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (Locog) on all musical aspects of the games, including the all-important opening ceremony.
Universal’s ability to call upon the services of Cole and the rest of Girls Aloud, as well as Take That, is likely to give the opening ceremony a sprinking of Britain’s top musical talent. Perhaps Gary Barlow will be prevailed upon to write an Olympics “anthem”, featuring a guest rap from will.i.am?
