Cheryl Cole has reportedly been described as a “terrific judge” by a Fox executive.
The Promise This singer and British X Factor judge has been widely tipped to be in the running for a spot alongside Simon Cowell on the US version of the show, which is scheduled to launch later this year.
According to Access Hollywood, the network’s group chairman of entertainment Peter Rice was quizzed about her possible involvement during the TCA tour on Tuesday. The website reports that although he didn’t comment on rumours that she is being considered – saying that Cowell is still working on the final line-up – he did praise her work in Britain.
“If Cheryl was to be on the show, I think she’s proved that she’s a terrific judge,” he is quoted as saying. “She has wonderful chemistry with Simon.”
Cole has been linked to the show for months, and recently suggested on Alan Carr’s Chatty Man that, although there had been “conversations” about a possible role, nothing had been confirmed or signed.
The star has previously earned words of praise from Piers Morgan and Black Eyed Peas star will.i.am, who have both predicted that she would be a success in America if the role on X Factor went ahead.
The announcement that Cowell was leaving American Idol in order to bring his X Factor format to the US has prompted a string of celebrities to be tipped to join him on the judging panel, from Nicole Scherzinger – a guest judge on the UK show – to Will Smith, who recently denied any involvement.
The X Factor is slated to premiere on Fox later this year.
