As speculation about Cheryl Cole’s role on the US X Factor continues, Simon Cowell has reportedly found a way to keep her on the show.
According to The Sun, if Cheryl is not chosen for the judging panel, she will take on the role of a mentor, similar to Sinitta’s role on the British version.
“Simon desperately wants Cheryl to be a judge but if that’s knocked back by Fox chiefs the next option is to start her as a mentor,” a source revealed.
“It would be a way to test how she’s received in America. Plus viewers would be able to warm to her first, rather than having her thrust upon them by going straight on the panel.”
Cheryl’s Geordie accent and her low status in the US were problems for American television executives but Simon admitted that no one had signed a contract except him.
He will make an announcement about the show in two weeks.
