These rumors will never rest! But this time it’s coming from a highly reliable source Variety.
Cheryl Cole is closing in on her deal to being named a judge on Fox’s “The X Factor.”
The Brit singer-songwriter has been a judge on the U.K. version of the reality competition skein since 2008 when she replaced Sharon Osbourne but is a new face to American audiences.
She would join Simon Cowell and producer L.A. Reid as judges for the series that is set to debut in September. Cole’s last album, “Messy Little Raindrops,” was released in November and the single “Promise This” shot to No. 1 in the U.K. charts.
Sources say the contract is currently being written for Cole and her announcement as the third judge should be coming soon after.
Contestant auditions are currently taking place around the country. Winner receives a $5 million recording contract with Syco/Sony Music.
Last week Reid said Cole was in line to become the next judge, but no official announcement has come from either Fox, Syco Prods. or FremantleMedia North America.
Fox and Fremantle would neither deny nor confirm this report.
Also, according the British press, Cowell will not go forward with the U.K. “X Factor,” which is set to launch its latest edition later this year. He cited health concerns due to spending much of his time balancing the U.S. and Brit versions of the show.
