X Factor Judges and Hosts on stage:

“Get ready,” read a promotional video for “The X Factor,” the singing competition that Mr. Reilly said is the network’s “tent pole” in the fall.

Simon Cowell, who is importing the British format of the show to the United States, brought his fellow judges and the show’s two co-hosts out to say hello — and promptly declared them the best-looking cast of any reality show ever.

Randy Jackson, Mr. Cowell’s former colleague on “Idol,” came out on stage with “The X Factor” cast, apparently as a joke. “Wrong show,” Mr. Cowell told Mr. Jackson. “This is the new one.”

Mr. Cowell assured advertisers that “this one is going to be different.” But at first glance the promo video looked a lot like “Idol,” down to the camera angles, the diverse judges’ panel and the teary rejections of contestants.

Of course, Mr. Cowell has another four months to prepare the show before it starts in September.

One thing’s for sure: “X Factor” will not be as nice as “Idol.” Rick Porter of the Web site Zap2It wrote on Twitter, “Based on the ominous ‘X Factor’ promo Fox just showed, I’m assuming losing contestants will be taken outside and shot.”
