Host of The X Factor USA Nicole Scherzinger seemed to snub Cheryl Cole in an interview today, after revealing Simon Cowell had chosen the Geordie star over her for a role on the panel. Former Pussycat Doll Nicole, whose hosting of the show has already been criticised, seemed to indicate friction between the pair.
Asked by Star magazine how she was getting on with the girls – Cheryl and Paula – on the panel, Nicole crudely replied: “I’m a big fan of Paula’s.”
Nicole was given the role as co-host alongside Brit Steve Jones earlier this month after Simon Cowell opted to pick Cheryl Cole over her for the panel. Nicole confirmed: “It was Simon’s [Cowell’s] choice that I wasn’t on the panel, not mine – but the way that I look at it is I have never really hosted before, so it’s a new challenge.”
She added: “I feel like I’m better served being a host because I’m able to empower the contestants and encourage them as opposed to having to be in a position to say no.”
The only time Nicole did mention Cheryl was to dismiss any suggestions that the pair would ever duet together, commenting: “I don’t think we would ever collaborate. We don’t really do the same type of music.”
Meanwhile Nicole and Steve’s first days of filming haven’t got off to the best of starts, with critics panning the pair’s chemistry. One complained: “When Nicole and Steve walked out on stage, it was pretty much crickets.
“I don’t think anyone recognized who she was and unless they step up their chemistry and stage presence it will probably be the same experience once the show airs in the fall.”
