Cheryl Cole has a new crush – on Cameron Diaz. The Vogue cover girl been a busy woman of late, having recently landed her first ever film role – a cameo in comedy What To Expect When You’re Expecting, where she plays a talent show judge, acting alongside Diaz.
“Cameron is amazing, honestly I’ve got such a girl crush on her,” she told us. “She’s such an amazing woman. It’s just so good to be doing new stuff. I never had the confidence to do acting before, and I’ve said I could probably play myself quite well. It was brilliant, we’ll see what happens next.”
Meanwhile, talk turned to the impending London Olympics – and Cole, who admitted she was not the athletic type at school, said she thinks learning a certain sport now would have its advantages.
“If I could be good at any sport, it’d be javelin. I know a few people I would love to throw a spear at,” she laughed, too kind to reveal exactly who might be on the receiving end.
Since her time spent on X Factor, Cole has become known for championing fashion’s lesser-known names – from David Koma to Bodyamr, often sparking hundreds to invest in the same dress. Does she ever feel intimidated by her fashion influence?
“I just love clothes,” she said. “The reason I go for the designers is because they make me feel good. It’s about finding clothes that make you feel good as a woman. If I like it, I’ll wear it. You have to go with your instincts and not be led by trends. It depends on how the clothes feel when you’re wearing them. You have to be you. Feeling womanly and happy is really important.”
We met her at the launch of her first ever fashion line – a shoe collection with newly-launched online retailer STYLISTPICK.COM available in time for Christmas. Although no concrete details have yet been released, the singer is heavily involved in the design process, with styles including high-heeled party shoes and trainers.
“I’ve been offered a few fashion things before, and until now I’ve never really had the time,” she explained. “Now I’ve got a little more of that, it felt totally right. I’m a very hands-on person, I don’t just want to give my name to something and not be a big part of it. And who doesn’t want to design and play with shoes? Over the past few months, I’ve got to get involved with so many new things and it’s so exciting. It might not sound very classy, but I feel like a little child – I just feel sick with excitement!”
