Sold-out tours and extreme luxury, Jay-Z lives life out loud. But ruthless Grammy promotion? Not his style. As the chief executive of entertainment company Roc Nation, Jay-Z hosts the most anticipated event in celebration of this weekend’s Grammy Awards: a Saturday brunch. It’s an unconventional event for a music awards weekend littered with parties that celebrate record labels, production entities, artists and above all else sponsors — each late-night rager promising a laundry list of nominees and buckets of booze from whichever sponsor cuts the biggest check. But we’re talking about Jay-Z. Roc Nation takes over the well-appointed patio of the members-only Soho House West Hollywood so that friends and family get to rub elbows, conceive projects, talk trophies and sip mimosas. Not the loudest or most hard-core party for a rap king, but that’s the delight. Consider it counterprogramming with A-list flare. While Jay’s wife, Beyonce, will presumably tend to their newborn in New York City, the new father of Blue Ivy Carter is expecting friends and colleagues Rihanna, Katy Perry, LA Reid, Ryan Seacrest, Diane Warren, Sia, J. Cole, Sean Garrett and Ellen Pompeo. A lineup of premiere Los Angeles DJs including Samantha Ronson will spin for invitees, who also include Rashida Jones, Kenny Lattimore, Joel Madden, Vanessa Simmons, Christina Milian and British “X Factor” star Cheryl Cole.

 Cheryl Cole has confirmed that illness has forced her to pull out of the ‘Children In Need Rocks Manchester’ concert later this week. The ‘Promise This’ star was due to perform with event organiser Gary Barlow, but has now officially cancelled her appearance following reports of her being unwell. Cole’s spokesperson told The Mirror: “Cheryl Cole has sadly had to pull out of a performance at CIN Rocks this week as she is suffering from pharyngitis.” The pair met up last week to plan their duet, which Barlow revealed Cole had initially approached him about. “I wouldn’t have asked Cheryl to duet with me because I’m a gentleman,” he said at a launch yesterday. “So I said to her: ‘Do you fancy doing something? Take your pick. We’ve got Coldplay, you can duet with anyone’. “And she said: ‘Well, what about you? I fancy doing something with you’. And I thought, ‘Here we go!’ So I styled it out and waited before texting back.” Cole was scheduled to make her music comeback at the MEN Arena event, which will also feature performances from Lady GaGa, JLS, Michael Bublé and Coldplay. Get well soon Cheryl and make your GIANT comeback properly in the new year!
