Cheryl feels more alive and relaxed in Los Angeles

Published by:

Cheryl Cole

The British singer is currently living in America – where she is recording new music and getting ready for a rumoured role on the judging panel of ‘The X Factor’ when it launches Stateside – and though she doesn’t completely feel settled in California, she is enjoying the sunshine and relaxed attitudes of people.

She said: “I found it a bit overwhelming when I first came here. Everything’s a bit spread out and you have to drive everywhere.

“Also, the mentality is really different. It takes a little while to adapt.

“London is still home though, and I haven’t set down roots here. LA is mainly for work and recording.

“But just to have the sunshine, it makes you feel alive. Everyone is a bit more relaxed here too. They just throw on shorts and shirts.

“Nobody really cares that much about how they look because the sun makes you feel so relaxed. You feel a bit out of place to be too put together, but being from England it’s in me naturally to want to dress up a little bit.”

While Cheryl insists she wouldn’t soften her North East England accent, she admits she has had to alter the way she says some words and phrases in order to be understood.

She explained in an interview with Glamour magazine: “I kind of have to change the way I speak. I used to hear British people and think, ‘Ugh, why are you saying “take out the trash?”’ But I had this thing the other day because I’d said ‘quarter past one’ and they didn’t get it.

“They don’t say ‘quarter past’ or ‘half past’, they say ‘1.15.’”

Cheryl loves to get ready for the red carpet

Cheryl Cole Britain Brit Awards 2011 Red Carpet

It takes her two hours to get ready for the red carpet, but Cheryl Cole wants to look her best. And she loves the process.

“It takes me a couple of hours to get red carpet ready. But I love the process of going from wet hair to the end result,” Cole said.

“I don’t think I’m a high-maintenance girl once I’m out and about.”

But no matter where she goes, the 27-year-old must have her must-have accessory: lip gloss. “I always have Glam shine lip gloss because it’s easy to put on and you don’t need a mirror, which is handy because I always forget to have a mirror in my bag.”

So what else lies in the depths of her handbag?

“I carry Telescopic, the mascara I use, and my perfume, which I change all the time. At the moment I use a Jo Malone one, Nectarine and Honey. And a hairbrush,” said Cole to Britain’s Hello! magazine.

Fabulous Magazine full interview

Cheryl Cole in Fabulous Magazine

She’s regularly voted one of the most beautiful women in the world. Naturally gorgeous, with flawless skin and the kind of figure that would make Simon Cowell’s high-waisted trousers look haute couture.

So, if there’s one girl you’d think would be oozing confidence about her looks, it’s Cheryl Cole. But nothing, it seems, could be further from the truth.

In an exclusive interview with Fabulous, the singer admits she battles body issues just like the rest of us, and is tormented with self-doubt on a daily basis.

“Do you ever reach the point when you’re happy with your body?” she asks. “I don’t think you do. I can look in the mirror in the morning and feel rubbish,” she says.

Cheryl’s words seem utterly bonkers when she’s stood before you – 5ft 3in of what is probably as close to perfection as you’re ever likely to get.

She’s been named FHM’s Sexiest Woman In The World for the last two years running, was voted most photogenic woman in history, beating style icon Audrey Hepburn to the top spot. Even super-sizzling Rihanna described Cheryl, 27, as the most beautiful woman she’d ever seen.

But we’re meeting Cheryl Cole after the year she described as 11 out of 10 in terms of awfulness. A year so bad it could make a girl with four L’Oréal Paris campaigns under her glossy barnet start to question the “Because you’re worth it” slogan.

First she had her heart broken yet again by cheating husband Ashley, 30 (they are now divorced after four years of marriage and he’s recently been dating I’m A Celebrity! contestant and Playmate Kayla Collins, 23). Then Cheryl almost died after contracting a deadly strain of malaria on holiday in Tanzania. On recovering, the nation’s sweetheart faced an unprecedented public backlash after choosing mini-me Cher Lloyd, 17, over Zimbabwean-born Gamu Nhengu, 18, to go through to the X Factor live rounds.

Cheryl will never refer to herself in the third person

Cheryl Cole

Cheryl is hotly tipped to be a judge on the upcoming US edition of Simon Cowell’s music show The X Factor. Despite being such a rising star Cheryl insists she will never get too big for her boots. She can’t abide pompousness, or people who constantly discuss themselves.

“Promise me, if you ever hear me call myself ‘Cheryl Cole’, please stop me. You know you’re in trouble of you talk about yourself in the third person,” she laughed in an interview with the British edition of OK! magazine.

Stylish Cheryl often features on the best-dressed lists of fashion magazines, with many of her female fans trying to recreate her edgy look. The beautiful singer finds it strange to be referred to as a fashion guru though, and she can often be found sporting a more natural look.

“I go out like that loads but for the record can I just say that I’ve never referred to myself as ‘Cheryl Cole – style icon’. That’s just weird,” she replied when asked if she felt like an icon without her hair and make-up done.

Cheryl to appear on Alan Carr: Chatty Man

Cheryl Cole to appear on Alan Carr Chatty Man

Cheryl Cole is going to try and win back the love of the British public, with an appearance on Alan Carr’s Chatty Man.

The X Factor judge has reportedly been alarmed by the public backlash against her this year, after Gamu gate and her dramatic refusal to choose between Katie Waissel and Treyc Cohen on a previous show.

Cheryl thinks that a tell all interview will be the way to get her side of the story across and has chosen the popular Channel 4 chat show as the place to do it.

A source told The Daily Star:

“Cheryl is devastated fans have turned against her during this year’s X Factor.

“She realises she needs to go on a PR campaign to win fans back and thinks Alan’s show will be the perfect way to do it.

“She’s also planning to sing an acoustic version of Promise This to prove she can cut it as a live performer.”

Just ignore the bullshit words the Daily Star tried to write this article with, it ain’t a tell-all interview, Chatty Man is a non serious, funny chat show and Cheryl doesn’t need to win anybody back. Just screw the pathetic bunch at DS and appreciate this jolly bit of news, can’t wait!
