X Factor war: Simon & Cheryl VS. Dannii & Louis

Published by:
  2010/10/17

Dannii Minogue, Louis Walsh, Cheryl Cole and Simon Cowell

Simon Cowell has admited that the X Factor judging panel is at war, with himself and Cheryl Cole on one side and Louis Walsh and Danni Minogue on the other.

The tension between the two camps has been clearly evident since the live shows began, with Louis and Cheryl, in particular, taking every opportunity to slam each other’s choices.

And last night was no different. From the moment that Louis took to the stage clutching Dannii’s hand, it was clear where the battle lines were drawn.

It continued when Simon slammed Dannii for giving her act Paije Richardson backing dancers that “looked like they had walked on to the wrong song.”

At another stage, he accused Dannni and Louis of looking “like they’ve been sucking lemons.”

Of course, Simon has been playing up the behind-the-scenes tensions.

He told the News Of The World: “Now that you mention it I haven’t really spoken to [Dannii] much. She seems a bit imperious this year, as if she’s above it all.”

He added: “Look its no secret me and Cheryl are best buddies. That is what Louis is angry about. Maybe I’m spending too much time talking to Cheryl and ignoring everyone else.”

Still, Simon couldn’t resist a few digs at Cheryl last night – calling her “Madam” (a reference to her reported diva behaviour, perhaps?) and telling her that she looked “less orange” than last week.

Joe McElderry also defends Cheryl’s X Factor pick

Cheryl Cole and Joe McElderry

Joe McElderry has defended Cheryl Cole’s decision not to put Gamu Nhengu through to the X Factor live shows.

McElderry, who returned to the ITV programme to perform his new single on Sunday night, told The Mirror that his former mentor’s decision had been justified by the performances on the first live show.

“All of Cheryl’s girls gave good performances,” he said. “[They] redeemed her decision to send them through, not Gamu, in the first place.”

He singled out Cole’s wildcard Treyc Cohen for praise, alongside Aiden Grimshaw and Mary Byrne.

“I love Cheryl and we still speak quite a bit,” he said. “I thought Treyc was fantastic on Saturday night and gave a real, diva-esque performance. Totally Tina Turner!”

He added: “Aiden and Mary are two of my other favourites. Mary’s a bit of a dark horse. She could win it.”

McElderry’s new single ‘Ambitions’ is on course for a top five debut in the UK chart this week.

Kimberley Walsh supports Cheryl’s X Factor decision

Published by:
  2010/10/12

Kimberley Walsh and Cheryl Cole

Kimberley Walsh has joined half the nation in saying that Cheryl Cole has been wrongly labelled a villain after a week of The X Factor-related controversy.

Cheryl Cole faced public backlash when she let Cher Lloyd, 17, through to the live show stages despite her messing up at the X Factor judge’s house.

The Geordie singer was also criticised by a few who thought wildcard choice Treyc should’ve gone through instead of Katie Waissel. But the Promise This singer’s Girl Aloud bandmate, Kimberley Walsh, has spoken up for her pal in her latest OK! column.

She said: “Surely most people agree that it’s ridiculous how much scrutiny Cheryl’s come under for her choices on The X Factor.

“Cheryl has picked the people she’s excited to work with and feels she can groom and make into a star.”

And Kimberley who showed up to support Cheryl at her jewellery launch recently stands by her words, in fact she thinks the girls could go the whole hog.

She added: “Regardless of what people think of her decision, it is her choice and that’s why she’s the judge.

“I think those girls will be really strong in the competition and people should respect her decision.”

Cheryl proves public wrong with Cher Lloyd decision

Published by:
  2010/10/10

Danni Minogue, Louis Walsh, Cheryl Cole and Simon Cowell

Cher Lloyd demonstrated exactly why Cheryl Cole has such faith in her with a stunning performance on Saturday’s X Factor live show.

The teenager has endured a stressful week as the row about Cheryl’s decision to choose her for the live stages of the talent contest ahead of Gamu Nhengu rumbled on.

However, Cher didn’t show any signs of being under pressure as she wowed the judges with her version of Just Be Good To Me.

Louis Walsh and Dannii Minogue lavished praise on the youngster before Simon Cowell attempted to draw a line under the Gamu row.

‘Any doubts anyone had about why this one [Cheryl] picked you a couple of weeks ago have just been blown away,’ he said.

‘You are exactly what we are looking for, which is a new little star.’

An excited Cheryl described her performance as ‘amazing’, adding: ‘You’re cool, you’re current, you’re just what the competition needs.’

Cher appeared both thrilled and relieved by the comments and claimed: ‘That felt wicked, I’ve proved myself now.’

Earlier, Cheryl had moved to end the controversy about her decision not to select Gamu for the live finals.

It had been suggested the production team had ordered her not to put the youngster from Zimbabwe through because of her visa problems, but the Girls Aloud star insisted that had not been the case.

‘I was not aware of Gamu’s situation outside of the competition and I am incredibly sad for both her and her family but I have to stress that it did not have any influence over my choice,’ said Cheryl.

She added that she understood the public’s disappointment about her decision, but said viewers had only seen ‘an edited version of what the audition process actually involves’.

I knew, and everybody knew once Cheryl and her acts walk fiercely through the doors the public would instantly forget the whole Gamu deal over the past week.

Cheryl increases security outside home after death threats

Published by:
  2010/10/07

Cheryl Cole

Cheryl Cole is said to have hired a team of security experts following reports that she has been receiving death threats from angry The X Factor fans after axing favourite, Gamu Nhengu.

As we reported yesterday, the Girls Aloud star was attacked by an angry XF viewer on Blackberry Messenger, telling the judge that ‘Every1 has a bullet for you’ after she put through Cher Lloyd and Katie Waissel over talented Zimbabwean singer, Gamu.

Now, according to The Sun, an intruder alarm firm spent nearly two hours outside Chezza’s mansion in Surrey yesterday, after friends revealed that the 27-year old was ‘freaked out’ by the death threats and other anti-Cheryl groups on Facebook.

A source said to be close to the Promise This singer told the newspaper: “She’s taking these threats seriously and is increasing her already good security.”

Bosses at The X Factor are also rumoured to be increasing security at Wembley Studios, where the first series of live shows will take place this weekend.

It has been reported that extra staff and guards will carry out vigilant security checks to prevent any trouble and no banners branded with axed Gamu’s name will be allowed in the venue.

A show insider explained: “Producers don’t want any risk. Everyone’s quite nervous and wants the live shows to go without a hitch.”

The Sun also claims that they have found the person responsible for the tirade of hatred aimed at Cole, claiming that wannabe rapper Sanussi Ngoy Ebonda has admitted to sending the threats.

The tabloid is said to have filmed him in secret as Ebonda reportedly tells the publication: “I was angry – everyone was expecting a black girl to go through.”

He added: “Maybe it was a bit over the top, but there were certain things that needed to be said.”

The newspaper plans to hand over the footage of his admission to the police, who are also said to be hunting the creator of a Facebook group that hoped Chezza would die ‘a painful death.’
